“ IsBullets: Even before I started speedrunning I was always super (no pun intended) into first-person shooter games. And there’s so many branching options that I don’t think we’d ever be able to find the purely "best" route through a level except for the very basic ones. The game itself is fairly linear but the levels are a sandbox of decisions and cause-and-effect where you really can find some amazing stuff just by knowing where an enemy will spawn or how they’ll move if you go a certain way. IGN: What is something you now know about Superhot speedrunning that you wish you knew earlier? IsBullets: I wish I’d known to be freer to investigate and play around and develop new ways through levels. If I had to throw out a guess, including practice and routing and all the other categories, I’d have to imagine it’s around 300 hours of playtime. So if you look on the game, I only have 50 hours put into it, even though I’ve done over 120 hours of runs of just the main category. The downside with that is that Steam doesn’t realize you have the game open and doesn’t log your hours. One of the things we have to do during the run involves re-opening the game, and opening it directly through the executable makes that go a lot quicker. “ IsBullets: Actually, that question is a lot harder than it should be for a game that plays through Steam.
